DiSC Assessment for Physicians
Most feedback physicians receive describes what went wrong. DiSC does something different. It describes how you naturally operate, in language that carries no judgment, so you can see why certain interactions go smoothly and others repeatedly do not. Used inside coaching, it turns a vague sense that something is off into a specific and workable picture.

What Is DiSC, and Why Does It Work for Physicians?
DiSC is a behavioral self-assessment built on a model first described by psychologist William Moulton Marston in his 1928 book Emotions of Normal People. Marston deliberately limited himself to behavior that could be observed, and described four patterns now known as Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness. Modern DiSC instruments place your results on a circle rather than sorting you into a box, which reflects the fact that everyone uses all four patterns and simply leans toward some more than others. It measures behavioral tendencies at work, not intelligence, not aptitude, and not anything clinical.
I am a DiSC Certified Facilitator, and at Physician Coaching with Anne, LLC the assessment is always facilitated rather than simply administered. A report on its own produces a quarter hour of interest and then sits in a drawer. What makes it valuable is the conversation afterward, where the profile is applied to the specific colleague, unit, or recurring situation that brought you here. The assessment can sit inside the full twelve-session program or serve as a shorter standalone engagement. Either way the results belong to you, and nothing is reported to an employer.
Our Services
Coaching Services I Offer
DiSC rarely stands alone for long, since the profile tends to raise questions that belong in the coaching itself. These are the services available.
Communication Coaching
for Physicians
The natural next step for most people who start with DiSC. Where the profile explains your tendencies, this service builds the delivery skills that go with them: listening, pacing, and adjusting how you come across. The profile gives that work a head start because the diagnostic part is already done.
Professional Behavior
Coaching for Physicians
For physicians facing conduct concerns raised by an institution. DiSC is often used early in these engagements because it describes behavior without assigning blame, which makes a difficult subject approachable. The work then moves to patterns, impact, and accountability.
Conflict Management and
Difficult Conversations
DiSC is particularly revealing about conflict, since most recurring friction happens between two styles that handle disagreement differently. This service applies that insight to specific disputes, difficult conversations, and receiving feedback. It suits physicians whose profile has just explained why one particular colleague exhausts them.
Physician Leadership
Coaching
Leaders use DiSC differently than individual physicians do, applying it to a whole division rather than to themselves alone. This service covers presence, influence, and adapting your direction to people who need different things from you. It suits new chiefs, medical directors, and committee chairs.
DiSC Assessment for
Physicians
You complete the assessment, then you and I work through what it says about your pace, your priorities, and your blind spots in a debrief built around your actual work. It can be a short standalone engagement or the opening phase of longer coaching. Physicians frequently describe it as the first framework that explained something they had noticed for years without being able to name.
The 12-Session Physician
Coaching Program
The standard structure for longer engagements, moving through self-awareness, accountability, skill development, practical application, and reflection. DiSC usually appears in the early sessions, then keeps resurfacing as new situations arise. An extension to twenty-four sessions is available.
Coaching for Healthcare
Organizations
Organizations sometimes ask for DiSC as part of a referred engagement or a development plan. This service sets out how those arrangements work, what the organization receives, and what stays private. Assessment results are not shared with an employer unless the physician chooses to share them.
Benefits of a Facilitated DiSC Assessment for Physicians
Language That Does Not Feel Like an Accusation: Describing yourself as fast-paced and results-focused opens a conversation that describing yourself as abrasive closes immediately.
An Explanation for the One Colleague Who Wears You Out: Style differences account for a surprising share of long-running friction, and naming the pattern removes the assumption that the other person is doing it deliberately.
Advance Warning About Your Own Stress Behavior: The profile describes how your approach shifts under pressure, which is exactly when most physicians act in ways they later regret.
A Faster Start to Coaching: Beginning with a clear behavioral picture means the sessions move quickly to what to do rather than spending weeks establishing what is happening.
Something Practical for Your Team, Not Just for You: Once you can identify how the people around you prefer to receive information, small adjustments in how you brief and delegate produce noticeably different responses.
Work Process
How the DiSC Process Works: 3 Simple Steps
Talk First, Assess Second
Call (503) 819-8642 or email amhirsch@comcast.net. A short conversation establishes what you want to understand, so the debrief can be aimed at something specific.
Complete the Assessment
The questionnaire is completed online in your own time and takes well under an hour, with no preparation and no right answers to work out.
Work Through What It Means
The facilitated debrief applies your results to real relationships and situations, and produces two or three concrete adjustments rather than a general description of your type.
DiSC Assessment and Clinical Communication Coaching
My DiSC sessions help physicians understand how their natural workplace behavior affects communication, decision-making, and relationships in clinical settings. We look at patterns such as directness, persuasion, patience, and attention to detail, then connect them to the situations you face in practice.
I use the assessment as a starting point rather than a fixed label. The debrief focuses on which behaviors are serving you, where they may be creating friction, and what small adjustments could improve specific interactions with colleagues, staff, patients, or families.
DiSC Coaching for High-Pressure Situations
Pressure can bring out communication habits that do not reflect how you normally lead or work with others. My sessions help you identify the behaviors that tend to surface when you are tired, short-staffed, rushed, or dealing with a difficult clinical situation.
Through guided discussion, I help you recognize your early warning signs and the situations that trigger them. We then develop practical responses you can use before frustration turns into a communication or leadership problem.
DiSC Coaching for Workplace Relationships
Differences in communication style can create tension between physicians, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, and other members of a clinical team. I use DiSC to help you understand where those differences come from and how your own approach may affect the interaction.
My sessions look beyond your individual profile to the working relationship itself. Together, we can identify what a colleague needs from you, how much context to provide, and which habits may be creating unnecessary resistance or misunderstanding.
DiSC Assessment Debrief for Physicians
I provide a guided DiSC debrief that puts the assessment into a professional and clinical context. The goal is not to diagnose personality, measure clinical ability, or make judgments about your fitness to practice, but to give you a clearer view of your workplace behavior.
As a self-report assessment, DiSC reflects how you describe your own behavior and should be used as a tool for reflection rather than a definitive judgment. My role is to help you interpret the results responsibly and turn useful observations into practical changes in communication and professional interactions.
Frequently Asked Questions About DiSC Assessment for Physicians
You can, and you will get a rough style label from it. What the free versions omit is the part that produces change, which is a trained facilitator applying your results to your actual colleagues and situations. The assessment identifies the pattern; the conversation determines what you do about it. Physicians who have taken free versions usually report the result sounded broadly right and then changed nothing.
The questionnaire itself is short, completed online in your own time, and requires no preparation. The substance is in the facilitated debrief that follows, which works through your profile in relation to the situations you brought. Most physicians leave that conversation with two or three specific adjustments to try. From there you can stop, or continue into coaching if the questions it raised are worth pursuing.
Not unless you decide to share them. Assessment results belong to you, the same as everything else discussed in coaching. If an organization has arranged the engagement, what they receive is agreed in writing beforehand and normally confirms participation rather than content. You will know the terms before you complete anything.
That happens occasionally and it is useful information rather than a failure of the instrument. Sometimes it means you answered as the physician you are at work rather than at home, which is the intended frame anyway. Sometimes it means you are between styles and the written summary flattened the nuance. The debrief exists partly to test the result against reality, and disagreeing with parts of it is a perfectly good starting point.
My coaching is one to one, so the assessment here is used individually rather than as a group workshop. That said, a large part of the debrief concerns other people, since the value lies in how your style meets the styles around you. Physicians often take what they learn back into their division informally. Organizations wanting broader team facilitation should mention that when they get in touch.
Want to Know Why Certain Interactions Keep Going the Same Way?
A facilitated DiSC assessment answers that question with specifics rather than generalities, and usually within a single conversation after the results arrive. Call to discuss whether a standalone assessment or a full coaching engagement fits your situation.

Areas I Am Currently Serving
The assessment is completed online and the debrief happens by video, so the entire process works without anyone traveling. That also means a physician can complete it privately, on their own schedule, without it becoming a topic at work. Pacific time scheduling is simple and arrangements beyond it are workable. Physicians and healthcare organizations in these areas are currently served:
Physicians in other parts of the country are welcome to inquire, since nothing about this process depends on location. Contact me to confirm availability and discuss whether a standalone assessment or fuller coaching makes more sense.
