The 12-Session Physician Coaching Program
Twelve confidential sessions, one-to-one, built around situations from your own working week rather than a fixed curriculum. The structure is what makes the difference, because a single conversation produces insight and a sustained program produces change.

What Do You Actually Get in a 12-Session Physician Coaching Program?
Twelve one to one sessions, each built on the last, working through communication, behavior, relationships, or leadership depending on what brought you here. Between sessions you test an approach in real clinical life and bring back what happened, which is what turns discussion into a changed habit. Twelve is a deliberate number rather than a round one. It is long enough for a pattern to be identified, altered, tested, and reinforced, and short enough to have a visible end.
Physician Coaching with Anne, LLC runs this program for physicians and for organizations arranging coaching on a physician behalf. What distinguishes it is the combination of structure and privacy. You get a defined arc rather than open ended conversation, a nonjudgmental behavioral framework through DiSC, the same coach from the first session to the last, and confidentiality on everything discussed regardless of who is paying. Sessions are held virtually and scheduled around call and clinic, because a program that ignores how physicians actually work does not get completed.
Our Services
Coaching Services I Offer
The program is the container, and the subject matter inside it depends on why you made contact. These are the services delivered through it.
Communication Coaching
for Physicians
Delivered inside the program when the focus is delivery: how you explain, listen, and come across under pressure. Sessions work on tone, pacing, and the habits that land badly without you intending them to. This is the most commonly requested focus.
Professional Behavior
Coaching for Physicians
The focus when concerns about conduct or workplace relationships have been raised, often by an institution. The program structure matters particularly here, since a department wants to see a serious commitment rather than a single meeting. Labels are left out of it.
Conflict Management and
Difficult Conversations
For physicians whose difficulties center on specific disputes, avoided conversations, or feedback that keeps landing badly. Program sessions are used to prepare, rehearse, hold the conversation, and then debrief what actually happened. The cycle repeats with each new situation.
Physician Leadership
Coaching
The developmental version of the program, for new chiefs, medical directors, and committee chairs. Sessions cover presence, influence without formal authority, and decisions you cannot discuss with your own team. Nothing has to have gone wrong to start.
DiSC Assessment for
Physicians
Usually introduced in the early sessions to establish a shared vocabulary for your behavioral patterns. As a DiSC Certified Facilitator, I debrief the results rather than handing over a report. It can also be arranged as a shorter standalone piece of work outside the program.
The 12-Session Physician
Coaching Program
The engagement described on this page. Twelve sessions, one coach, and material drawn from your own workplace. It suits a physician addressing a specific concern as well as one who simply wants to work differently. The twenty-four session extension is available when a situation needs longer.
Coaching for Healthcare
Organizations
The program as arranged by medical staff offices, chief medical officers, and department chairs. This service covers referral structure, what the organization receives, and where confidentiality holds. All terms are settled in writing before the first session.
Benefits of a Structured 12-Session Program
Repetition Is What Makes Change Stick: Twelve sessions give you a dozen chances to try something, get it wrong, and adjust, which is how skills form in every other part of medicine too.
A Visible Commitment: When an institution is watching, completing a defined program demonstrates seriousness in a way that no assurance in a meeting can match.
The Work Follows Your Situation: There is no fixed syllabus, so if the problem you arrived with turns out not to be the real one, the program simply follows the real one.
Enough Time to Get Past the Presenting Issue: Early sessions deal with the incident, and later sessions reach the pattern underneath it, which is the part that prevents a repeat.
A Defined End Point: Knowing the engagement concludes at twelve sessions keeps the work purposeful and avoids the open ended arrangement that physicians rightly resist.
Work Process
How to Start the Program: 3 Simple Steps
Have the Introductory Conversation
Call (503) 819-8642 or email amhirsch@comcast.net. This first call is confidential, carries no obligation, and establishes whether the program suits your situation.
Confirm the Terms in Writing
Fees, session count, cadence, and any reporting boundaries where an organization is involved are all agreed and documented before the first session takes place.
Begin and Build
Sessions start, real situations from your week become the material, and each meeting builds on what you tried since the last one.
The Five Focus Areas That Shape the Program
Every engagement moves through the same five focus areas, though the time spent on each varies. Self-awareness comes first, because nothing changes while you are still arguing with the description of the problem, and this stage establishes what you do, when, and under what conditions. Accountability follows, which is the point where you separate what belongs to the environment from what belongs to you, without either absorbing everything or dismissing all of it.
Skill development is the practical middle: specific techniques for the specific situations you face, not general principles. Practical application takes those skills into your actual workplace between sessions, which is where most of the real work happens. Reflection closes the loop, reviewing what shifted, what resisted, and what still needs attention. The sequence matters. Physicians who skip ahead to technique before doing the self-awareness work tend to apply the technique correctly and get no result, because the underlying pattern is still running.
What Actually Happens in a Single Session
A session runs as a focused conversation, and it begins with what has happened since the last one. You describe a real exchange, decision, or conflict from your week, in enough detail that the specifics are available rather than a summary of them. From there the work depends on the material. Sometimes the session unpacks what occurred and why it went the way it did. Sometimes you rehearse an upcoming conversation aloud, several times, adjusting the wording until it sounds like you rather than like a script.
Sometimes the DiSC profile gets pulled back out because the same behavioral collision has appeared again in a different setting. Each session usually ends with one thing to try before the next, deliberately small enough to be realistic on a working week. There is no reading, no written homework, and no exercises to complete. Your clinical life supplies all the material the program needs, which is why physicians can manage this alongside a full schedule.
How Twelve Sessions Are Spaced Around Clinical Work
Cadence is agreed rather than imposed, and it is built around your rotation rather than a fixed weekly slot. Sessions commonly sit two to three weeks apart, which leaves enough time for a new approach to meet a real situation and produce something worth discussing, without so much distance that continuity is lost. A twelve-session program therefore typically runs across several months rather than several weeks. Gaps are expected.
A heavy stretch on service, a night float block, or annual leave will interrupt the rhythm, and that is treated as normal rather than as a failure of commitment. Sessions are held virtually, which is what makes this workable: you can meet from a home office, a call room, or a clinic between blocks with no travel attached. Physicians in Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles are all in the same time zone, which keeps scheduling straightforward, and arrangements further afield are perfectly manageable.
When the Program Extends to 24 Sessions
Twelve sessions suit most situations, and many physicians finish there with what they came for. The twenty-four-session extension exists for engagements where the material is genuinely larger. That includes long-standing patterns formed over decades of practice, situations where a physician is rebuilding a working relationship with an entire unit, leadership transitions that unfold over a year, and cases where an institution has asked for a longer period of demonstrated change.
The extension is a decision made during the program rather than at the start, usually somewhere around the eighth or ninth session, when it becomes clear whether the work will be complete. Nobody is signed up for twenty-four sessions on day one, and the extension is not treated as a default. Where twelve is enough, twelve is what you do.
Frequently Asked Questions About the 12-Session Physician Coaching Program
Fees depend on the length of the engagement and whether a physician or an organization is arranging it, so they are discussed directly in the introductory conversation rather than published as a single figure. Nothing is charged for that first call. Whatever is agreed is confirmed in writing before the first session, including what happens if the engagement extends. There are no additional charges layered on during the program.
That is anticipated and it does not derail anything. Physicians have unavoidable stretches where a session simply cannot happen, and the program is built to absorb that. Work usually resumes without needing to retrace ground, since the material is your ongoing working life rather than a syllabus you fell behind on. The total remains twelve sessions regardless of how long they take to complete.
The clearest signals are practical rather than numerical. Conversations you were dreading start happening, situations that used to escalate resolve earlier, and colleagues behave differently toward you. Reflection sessions revisit the goals set at the beginning and check them against what has actually changed. If several sessions pass with no observable movement, I raise that directly rather than continuing quietly.
Yes. You are not locked into completing the full program, and some physicians reach what they needed earlier than expected. In that situation the remaining sessions are often spaced further apart and used for reinforcement instead of being abandoned altogether. Where an organization has arranged the engagement, any early conclusion is a conversation involving them as well, under the terms agreed at the outset.
No. A defined incident is a common starting point, but plenty of physicians begin with something vaguer, such as noticing they have become shorter with people, or wanting to prepare for a role. The first sessions will sharpen that into something workable. Arriving without a tidy problem statement is a perfectly reasonable place to start.
Wondering Whether a 12-Session Commitment Is Right for Your Situation?
The introductory conversation exists precisely to answer that. You describe what is happening, and you get a straight view on whether this program fits, whether something shorter would do, or whether a different kind of support would serve you better.

About Physician Coaching With Anne
Physician Coaching with Anne, LLC delivers a structured twelve-session coaching program for physicians, extendable to twenty-four sessions. Led by Anne, a DiSC Certified Facilitator, the program works through self-awareness, accountability, skill development, practical application, and reflection, using real workplace situations and delivered virtually to physicians in Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles. Areas I Am Currently Serving
The entire program runs virtually, which is deliberate rather than a compromise. Physicians are time-poor, and the privacy of meeting from your own space matters when the subject is your own conduct or a colleague you work beside. Scheduling across the Pacific time zone is simple, and workable well beyond it. Physicians and healthcare organizations in these areas are currently served:
Physicians and medical staff offices elsewhere in the country are welcome to inquire, since the format imposes no real geographic limit. Get in touch to confirm availability and discuss a cadence that fits your service.
